Well, It's I-600 Day

We finally made it to Monday. March 19, 2012 - 2:00 PM. That was a very important day in the adoption process.  It is when we were to file our I-600 at the U S Embassy in Ghana.  Appointment times are important and you cannot be late.  I really did not do a whole lot of thinking about this date except to say the paperwork had to be perfect and you must show up on time or the process is delayed.  After running around Ghana a few days I have really heard a fair number of comments concerning how difficult it is to become a US Citizen.  I really already was aware of this but hearing comments make it a bit different.  As Donna and I walked into the Embassy, two things really struck my attention.  There were probably 50 or so Ghanians in line waiting to be waited on for various reasons.  Many wanting a Visa to the USA.  Not an easy task.  Here we are escorted across the room with two Ghanian children clasping our hands wondering, where are we I am sure.  As we went to the front of the line, I was wondering why the line jumping.  As I ask I found out because we were Americans we had that privilege.  A second thought, was that I am certain that many Ghanian Citizens were looking on knowing that the two Ghanian children walking before them would become US Citizens with ease as a result of adoption.  Just another reminder of how proud and blessed we are to be Citizens of the USA.Well, the appointment went off great.  All is good and we just wait for the next step.  After the appointment the rest of the day was to relax and continue to get to know the kids.  We went back to the Hotel and played games, introduced the kids to American snacks and so on.  Tuesday will be a African shopping day.  I will report on that soon.
